Senior players can play Indian Premier League (IPL) nonstop, why can’t they play for the country, said legendary player Mr. Sunil Gavaskar.

On the 12th of July, Tuesday, the former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar made a statement about the new policy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI,) which allows rest for players.  Recently, after the demand of senior players, demanding rest for players in any Indian squad ahead of international series or marches, the BCCI approved it.

However, presenting his opinion, about it Mr. Sunil Gavaskar urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India to handle these senior players, who were asking for rest ahead of the crucial matches, and revise the policy.

Responding to this, Gavaskar said, “T20I is a matter of 20 overs, doesn’t take a toll on your body”.  He said, “See I do not agree with players resting (during India matches). Not at all. You are playing for India. You don’t take a rest during IPL but rest while playing for India. I don’t agree with it. You will have to play for India. Don’t talk about rest. There are only 20 overs in an innings in T20. That does not take any toll on your body. In Test matches, the mind and the body take a toll, but in T20 cricket, there is not much of a problem (in playing.)”

Meanwhile, in-game front, India defeated England 2-1 in the three-match T20I series that concluded on Sunday.  The sides will now meet for an ODI series of as many matches, starting from the 12th of July.

After the ODI series against England gets over, India would be touring the Caribbean for three ODIs and a five-match T20I series.

It commences on July 22 at Port of Spain in Trinidad.
