Lasith Malinga, a bowler of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team, on the 26th of July, retired from the One Day International (ODI) cricket format after Team Sri Lanka’s massive victory against Bangladesh in an ODI match in Colombo.

Malinga, one of the fastest bowlers of the Sri Lankan Team, on the 22nd of July, announced his retirement from ODIs.

Earlier, in 2011, Malinga announced his retirement from Test matches and now, he retired from the ODI format.

However, he will play T20 International matches now. Malinga, who bid goodbye to the ODI format and expressed his wish to be a part of the Sri Lankan squad which will play the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

Malinga said, “I hope I will have an opportunity to play in that (T20 World Cup Australia) tournament, but if there are better players than me, I don’t mind being left out.”

Malinga played his last ODI match against Team Bangladesh, on the 26th of July and won it.

In his last ODI match, Malinga gave an outstanding performance and took 3 wickets in 9.3 overs.

Lasith Malinga played 30 Test matches in his career and took 101 wickets at an average of 33.16 overs and played 73 T20 matches, scoring 97 wickets at an average of 19.7 overs.

Malinga also played 226 ODIs for Sri Lanka. In the 226 matches, he took approximately 338 wickets at an average of 28.87 overs. He also played a key role in the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cup finals.

Twitter is flooded with congratulatory messages for Malinga as he finished his last ODI match before his retirement with a victory.
