Footballer Lionel Messi is trending all over social media platforms as Argentina won the 2022 FIFA (International Federation of Football Association also known as Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup.
Messi lifted the trophy, presented by Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, after a historic 3-3 thriller score and 4-2 penalty shootout, in the match 120 minutes at Lusail stadium in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates.
In the match, Argentina bested France with 4-2 on penalties shot, after the tie of 3-3 score. With this, Argentina won its third World Cup, after 36 years.
Twitter, Instagram and Facebook is flooded with posts of Argentina winning the FIFA World Cup and appreciating Lionel Messi. Many Messi fans celebrated the victory of their favourite player by bursting crackers on the roads.
Another good news for Messi fans is that he announced not to retire and said, he wants to enjoy more such matches. After lifting the winning trophy, Lionel Messi said, “I want to enjoy a couple of more matches being a world champion.” Insisting on not retiring from international football, Lionel Messi said, “Finishing my career this way is impressive. After this, what else? I have a Copa América, a World Cup. Almost at the very end. I love soccer, what I do. I enjoy being part of the national team, the group. I want to enjoy a couple of more matches being a world champion (sic.)”
It is to be noted, Argentina won the last FIFA World Cup in 1986, after which this is the first FIFA World Cup, the team lifted after 36 years. So far, the team has won three FIFA World Cup matches, first in 1978, next in 1986 and now in 2022.
