On the 27th of January, Thursday, legendary hockey player and former Indian captain Mr. Charanjit Singh passed away.

Mr. Charanjit Singh represented India as captain in 1964 Tokyo Olympics gold medal-winning team. Besides the gold winning team, Charanjit Singh was also a part of the silver winning side in the 1960 edition of the Games. He was also a part of the 1962 Asian Games silver-winning team.

Charanjit Singh died in Himachal Pradesh, after suffering a cardiac arrest today morning. The news was confirmed by Mr. Charanjit Singh’s son V.P.Singh. He said, “Dad was paralysed after suffering a stroke five years back. He used to walk with a stick but since the last couple of months, his health deteriorated and this morning he left us.”

According to sources, the 90 year old Charanjit Singh was suffering due to prolonged illnesses after suffering a stroke five years back.

Charanjit Singh is survived by two sons and one daughter. Reportedly, his last rites are scheduled to be held today after his daughter arrives from Delhi, on the 27th of January.
