The Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction is being held in Bengaluru, Karnataka for the 15th edition IPL.

Besides other players in the race, there was a bidding war for Shreyas Iyer, who eventually joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR took Shreyas Iyer with a bid of Rs 12.25 crores. Iyer’s former team Delhi Capitals (DC) fought in the bidding war till the end, while they received competitions from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), KKR, and Lucknow SuperGiants.

After rounds of bidding, KKR, who was looking for a captain, bagged Iyer, who made his IPL debut in 2015 with Delhi Capitals.

In his Cricket career, Shreyas Iyer scored 2,375 runs in 87 matches at an average of 31.66.

Besides Shreyas Iyer, KKR took Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy. In addition, KKR also resigned Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins.

During the auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bagged Faf du Plessis for Rs. 7 crores.

Earlier, Punjab Kings (PBKS) signed Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada, while spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went to Rajasthan Royals (RR.)

The IPL 2022 is expected to be held in April, however official dates are awaited.
