After Indian pacer Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the Indian Council of Cricket (ICC) Twenty-20 (T20) World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India named three players to join the squad.

On the 12th of October, Wednesday evening, the BCCI announced Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur to be flying to Australia and joining the Indian squad. The three stand by players and the replacement of Deepak Chahar flew to Australia on Wednesday and would join the Rohit Sharma led the team on the 13th of October, Thursday.  It is to be noted, initially, Jasprit Bumrah was selected for the T20 World Cup, who was ruled out of the game due to his back injury, following which the BCCI named Deepak Chahar as the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah.  However, now, after the ankle injury of Deepak Chahar, he also missed the T20 World Cup opportunity and was ruled out.

A BCCI official confirmed the updates and said, “Deepak will take some time to get fit. His back issue has flared up again. His ankle is fine and there wasn’t any problem there.  So BCCI is sending three reinforcements, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur.”

It is to be noted, one among the three pacers, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur would replace Bumrah in the squad of 15.  Since the team has time till the 15th of October 15, the official replacement of Jasprit Bumrah, among the three stand by players is awaited.

The decision would be taken by the concerned management of Indian Cricket in Australia after checking the fitness of all three players.

Meanwhile, the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia is scheduled to begin on the 16th of October.
