The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to announce two new Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. On the evening of the 28th of September,

Tuesday, the BCCI announced to add two new IPL teams on the 25th of October.

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League conducted a meeting on Tuesday and confirmed the news. It is to be noted, the new IPL teams would be announced a day after the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan. The T20 World Cup match is scheduled on the 24th of October.

After the Governing Council meeting, the BCCI also took to Twitter and announced the same. The twey of the BCCI read, “The IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027 will be released immediately after the appointment of two new IPL teams which is scheduled to be announced on October 25 2021.”

According to sources, the BCCI had shortlisted six cities to be new IPL teams. The shortlisted cities are Guwahati, Ranchi, Cuttack (all East), Ahmedabad (West), Lucknow (Central Zone), and Dharamsala (North.) However, final two teams would be declared on the 25th of October.

In regard to the same, the BCCI also decided to extend the date for purchasing the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the right to own and operate one of the two proposed new IPL teams documents till the 10th of October. Initially, the date was scheduled for the 5th of October.

As of now, there are eight IPL teams: Mumbai Indians (MI,) RCB, Chennai Super Kings (CSK,) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH,) Rajasthan Royals (RR,) Punjab Kings XI, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC.)

Meanwhile, the 14th edition of the IPL 2021 which resumed again on the 19th of September is underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE.) The IPL 2021 would continue till the 15th of October.
