On the 16th of January, Monday,  the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Viacom18 has won the media rights of the Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL.)

On Monday, Mr. Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI took to Twitter and shared an official statement in this regard.  “Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women’s @IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket.”

The rights have been reserved with a bid amount of Rs. 951 crores, for a period of 2023 to 2027.   Viacom18 won the rights with at an auction in Mumbai on Monday, confirmed the BCCI.

This would be the first time that the Women IPL would be held, which has excited female cricket fans and audiences, in India.  The Women’s IPL tournament is likely to begin in March 2023.  However, an official schedule of the event is yet to be announced.
