On the 2nd of October, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, took a major decision and suspended the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy SP (DSP) of Hathras.

In addition to the suspension of the SP and the DSP, station inspectors and other officials involved in the case were also suspended.

Suspended officers are SP Vikrant Veer, Circle Officer Ram Shabd, Inspector Dinesh Kumar Verma, Sub Inspector Jagveer Singh and Head Constable Mahesh Pal.

The decision was taken in regard of the Hathras Gang rape case, occured on the 14th of September 2020.

On the 14th of September, a 19 year old Dalit girl was brutally gang raped, she later died on the 29th of September at Safdarajang hospital in Delhi.

Another such rape incident once again triggered the nation, calling for criticism for the UP Government, protests at Jantar Mantar and demanding justice for the victim and her family.

After suspending Mr.Adityanath said the Uttar Pradesh Government is committed to the safety of all women.

Meanwhile, the U.P., Government also handed over the case to a Special Investigation Team.

The SIT submitted an initial report which calls for the suspension of the senior police officials who “mismanaged” the case.

The SIT also asked for a lie-detector tests of all involved in the case, including the family members.

The matter also became a political issue after drawing criticism from the opposition parties.

Recently, the Indian National Congress and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegations who tried to visit the family of Hathras gang rape victim were detained and stopped. However, the INC delegations led by former President of INC Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi would once again try to visit Hathras to meet the family of the victim.

While INC General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi sought the resignation of the U.P., CM, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said, Mr. Yogi should go to Gorakhpur and run the Math.

Netizens are questioning the attitude of the police and the administration of the state in regard to the accused.
