The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections started from the 10th of February.

In the first phase, scheduled from 7:00 A.M., to 6:00 P.M., a total of 2.28 crore voters would perform their franchise. Nearly 623 candidates from different political parties and independent candidates are in the fray to contest the first phase elections for 58 seats, in 11 districts.

The 11 districts were votings would be held at are: Shamli, Muzaffar Nagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura and Agra.

High security, police forces and other electoral officers were deployed to ensure smooth and violence free voting.

Notably, the Samajwadi Party (SP,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Indian National Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are in the fray to compete.

The first phase of voting is being held using the Wuhah virus (COVID-19) safety protocols and the guidelines as issued by the Election Commission from time to time. All voters must mandatorily wear masks, maintain social distance and use sanitizer while voting and thermal scanning of all persons will be carried out before allowing them to enter inside the EVM room.

Meanwhile, the election officials will be given a COVID-19 kit to conduct the election smoothly. The last one hour of the polling will most likely be reserved for COVID-positive voters.
