On the 21st of October, the Union Cabinet approved the bonus to government employees.

Prakash Jaavdekar, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting of India, announced immediate disbursal of Rs. 3,737 crores of bonus and non-productivity linked bonus to 30 lakh central government employees.

The amount would be given to the employees within a week, which would help nearly 30 lakhs non gazetted employees.

The beneficiaries include 17 lakh non gazetted employees from government’s commercial establishments such as railways, post office, EPFO, ESIC and production and their share will be Rs 2,791 crores.

The remaining 13 lakh government employees would get non-productivity link bonus of Rs. 946 crores.

The decision to give bonus was taken after two major railway workers associations warned of blocking rail movement if their demand for release of productivity linked bonus was not met before the Durga Puja.

The benefit and the bonus would be given in installment, and one instalment would be paid before Vijaya Dashami.
