Union Government Extends Lockdown By Two More Weeks

The Union Government extended the nationwide lockdown by two weeks, till the 17th of May.  The lockdown 3.0 would be in effect from the 4th of May.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement on the evening of the 1st of May.   

Regarding the 3rd lockdown, the MHA also issued a set of guidelines, which would be followed across India.

However, this time the Union Government eased some of the activities like agriculture, functioning of grocery stores, monopoly markets, electrcians, plumber and other such services in orange and green zone areas.

The Union Health Ministry issued a list of containment or red zones in India statewise.   A total of 130 districts across India were designated as red zones for the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, where strict lockdown would continue with a new set of guidelines.

Travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road will remain banned.

The issued order reads, “Under the new guidelines, a limited number of activities will remain prohibited throughout the country, irrespective of the Zone.  These include travel by air, rail, metro and inter-State movement by road; running of schools, colleges, and other educational and training/ coaching institutions; hospitality services, including hotels and restaurants; places of large public gatherings, such as cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums, sports complexes etc;  social, political, cultural and other kinds of gatherings; and, religious places/ places of worship for public.  However, movement of persons by air, rail and road is allowed for select purposes, and for purposes as permitted by MHA,” 

However, travel by air, railways, metros and inter state travel by road is banned for all the three designated zones till the 17th of May.

Schools, colleges and other educational and training/ coaching institutions; hospitality services, including hotels and restaurants,places of large public gatherings, shopping malls, cinema halls, gyms and sports complexes would remain shut.

Besides any social, political, cultural, religious or any kind of gatherings would be banned.

The third lockdown would come in effect from the 4th of May.
