On the 8th of March, the Parliament Budget Session’s Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day.   

M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha adjourned the session fUnion Budget Session 2021-2022 Begins, Rajya Sabha Session Adjourned For Dayor the day due to the ruckus created by the opposition over increased fuel prices.

Besides adjourning the session, Mr. Naidu also announced the new timings of the session.  On the request from many members from various parties, Mr. Naidu said from the 9th of March, the sitting of the Rajya Sabha would be from 11:00 A.M., to 6:00 P.M.

This is the fourth time in a day, the Rajya Sabha has been adjourned.  Previously it was adjourned till 11:00 A.M., later it was again adjourned till 1:00 P.M., after that, the Chairman  adjourned the session till 1:30 P.M., and finally it was adjourned for the day.  

In early hours, the opposition started raising slogans and started to create chaos over increasing fuel prices.  

The rates of fuels have been rising due the production cuts by the global oil producers.  As of the 8th of March, petrol is selling at Rs. 91.17 in Delhi, Rs. 89.38 in Noida, Rs. 97.57 in Mumbai while it costs Rs. 91.35 in Kolkata. 

The second part of the 2021 Budget Session would conclude on the 8th of April. 

The first phase started from the 29th of January and concluded on the 29th of February.  The Budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2021-2022 was presented on the 1st of February, by FM Nirmala Sitharaman. 

Due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha started functioning on the same day.  

The Rajya Sabha would function from 11:00 A.M., to 6:00 P.M.
