The United Kingdom (U.K.,) Prime Minister Boris Johnson would be the Chief Guest at Republic Day in India. 

On the 27th of November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officially invited Mr. Borison to be the Chief Guest at Republic Day celebration in New Delhi, India. 

On the 15th of December, the U.K., accepted the invitation of Indian Government and confirmed to be the Chief Guest at Republic Day on the 26th of January 2021.

After John Major in 1993, Boris Johnson is the  first  British Prime Minister to attend the Republic Day event in India.  

Mr. Johnson expressed his gratitude towards the invitation and said, “I am absolutely delighted to be visiting India next year at the start of an exciting year for Global Britain, and look forward to delivering the quantum leap in our bilateral relationship that Prime Minister Modi and I have pledged to achieve

The news of Boris Johnson’s visit to India was confirmed by the U.K., Government.

According to Downing Street, Mr. Johnson would travel to India in January 2021.

During the trip to India, Mr. Johnson would also strengthen a strategic relationship between the U.K., and India. 

The upcoming trip to India would be the first major bilateral visit of Boris Johnson after taking office. 

An official spokesperson said the trip will kick off a significant year for ‘Global Britain.’

Mr. Johnson accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation in a letter. 

The U.K., Government released a statement regarding the same.  The Statement read, “The Prime Minister will use his visit to India to boost our cooperation in areas that matter to the UK and that will be priorities for our international engagement throughout 2021, from trade and investment, to defence and security, and health and climate change.”

In the letter addressed to Mr. Modi, Boris Johnson also invited India to be a part of the U.K.,’s G7 Summit as one of three guest nations.

The other two guest nations are South Korea and Australia. 

The G7 Summit is scheduled to be held in 2021.
