The Union Cabinet Clears The Triple Talaq Bill

In a major change to society, the Union Cabinet on Friday cleared the Triple Talaq Bill. A cabinet meeting was held in the afternoon where the decision was made. In August, the Supreme Court passed an order that termed the practice of triple talaq as unconstitutional.

The Apex Court made the decision with a majority of 3:2 and agreed triple talaq was void, illegal and unconstitutional. A law needs to be put in place to make the practice an offense under the India Penal Code.

Once the law is made part of the Constitution the victims can approach the police. The victims can then get redressal of their grievances and action can be taken against their husbands.
