In a shocking case reported from Tamil Nadu, a 21-year-old man died of burn injuries after he accidentally fell into a vessel of hot rasam in Tiruvallur district about 45 kms from Chennai, police said on Monday.

The victim, V Sathish, was a college student working part-time in a catering firm. He was a resident of Athipattu Pudhunagar near Ennore. He was a final-year BCA student at a private college in Korukkupet. Both his parents are daily labourers, according to the local police.

The incident occurred when he was serving food to guests at a wedding function last week, they said. A few guests at the wedding said he was walking past the boiling hot cauldron while serving food to them when he slipped and fell into it. The pot had boiling hot rasam meant to be served to the guests.

He was immediately rescued and taken to a primary healthcare clinic in Minjur, from where he was later taken to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The victim was admitted to the government hospital in the city with severe burns. He died on April 30 without responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, the Minjur Police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (unnatural death). Later, the body was handed over to the student’s family after a post-mortem. An investigation is underway.
