After being evicted by her son, a 90 year old woman was to return to the USA to spend her last days there. Donning her superhero cape yet again, the Union Minister Sushma Swaraj made sure that the old woman will get to spend her last days in India. Kantaben, who has spent most of her prime years in India requested that she does not want to go back to the land of Donald Trump, to which the minister agreed. After reading Kantaben’s plight in a news daily, Sushma Swaraj decided to take the matter into her hands.

A native of Gujarat and a US citizen, the lady was living with her younger son in Oklahoma, United States. In 2016 November, her son sent Kantaben back to India with an expired Indian Visa after which she was allowed to stay for 72 hours. Three months down the lane, the woman is still here and doesn’t want to go back to her son’s place as she has no one to talk to there. But seeing that she is not a citizen of India, she has been facing problems.

 

Kantaben was given an ultimatum by the Foreign Regional Registration officer on January 12. But despite her repeated requests and appeals to the home and external affairs ministry, there was no result. The elder son Jayesh, who lives in India expressed his concern over her return and also how she came into the country with an expired visa and sickness.

According to Kantaben, being born and brought up here in Ahmedabad she went on to live in the USA much later. She also expressed her woes to the union minister who promised to take care of her. The Union Minister of External Affairs even in the past has helped many through social media and had earned the title of savior in the netizens of India.
