New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court said that only the photographs of President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India should feature in government advertisements. The court said that only after taking the approval, the photographs of these people should be used.

The court also permitted the usage of photos of National leaders Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, according to reports. In response to a petition filed by lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan, the judgement was issued.

After the verdict, Prashant Bhushan said, “All those state governments which have put up ads and hoardings at the taxpayers’ expense with photos of chief ministers and party leaders will now have to pull them down.”
