In the view of yet to beginning precautionary Wuhan virus vaccine drive, the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covisheild reduced its price for private hospitals.
Initially, the Covishield dose was available for Rs. 600, which has now been reduced to Rs. 225 per dose. The SII Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Adar Poonawalla said that the SII has decided to revise the price of the Covishield vaccine for private hospitals after discussions with the Central government. Taking to Twitter, the SII CEO said, “We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the Central Government, SII has decided to revise the price of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from Rs.600 to Rs 225 per dose.” He further added, “We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18+.”
The decision to revise prices benefiting the majority of the population of India, came a day after the Union Government announced to begin a vaccination drive for booster doses at private centers. The Health Ministry of India announced a booster dose for 18 plus people, starting on the 10th of April, Sunday.
The approved gap between the two Wuhan virus (COVID-19) doses and booster dose would be 9 months. With the new pricing and allowed additional charges of Rs. 150, the dose at the private vaccination centers would be available for around Rs. 400.
