The Supreme Court (SC,) on the 23rd of August, granted P. Chidambaram protection from arrest from the Enforcement Directorate (ED.)

A bench of SC judges, headed by R. Banumathi, granted Chidambaram protection after his legal team moved the Court and demanded he be given protection from arrest.

The bench said, “Having heard the counsels for petitioner and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, we are of the view that the co accused were granted bail in the ED case. The petitioner shall not be arrested till the further hearing of the case. List the petition on Monday (the 26th of August.) The respondent (ED) shall file their reply and contentions by Monday (sic.)”

Although the SC granted Chidambaram protection from arrest, he has to be in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till the 26th of August, as per the orders of a special court of Delhi.

The next hearing is scheduled on the 26th of August.
