The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday announced that they will soon release Rs. 10 notes. These new Rs. 10 denomination notes will have enhanced security features. It was announced by the RBI that the bank notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005 will be carrying an inset letter ‘L’ on both number panels, bearing the signature of governor Urjit Patel.

RBI also said that the year of printing, 2017 will be on the back of the note. Apart from these features, the numerals on both the panels will be in ascending size from left to right. Also, the starting three alpha numeric characters in the number panel will remain constant in size.

The notification read, “All the banknotes in the denomination of Rs. 10 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender,” which means while the old notes are in circulation the new notes will be inducted into the system. This is so as to eliminate the cash crunch that the country faced after demonetization wherein higher denomination notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 were discontinued from circulation.
