Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) would  appear in a Gujarat court today to appeal against his conviction in a defamation case.

Notably, a Surat Court convicted Mr. Rahul Gandhi for two years imprisonment in the 2019 defamation case.   On the 23rd of March, the Surat Court convicted Mr. Rahul Gandhi for his remark insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over surname Modi.  In a 2019 public rally said, people with surname ‘Modi’ are thieves.

After the conviction, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notice to Wayanad Member of Parliament (MP) Rahul Gandhi and disqualified him as the Lok Sabha MP.
