Pranab Mukherjee, the former President of India, passed away on the 31st of August.

Mr. Mukherjee passed away at the age of 84, after being treated for a brain clot and the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Mukherjee was admitted to an army hospital and was under observation.

According to the hospital authorities, since the 10th of August, his conditions were deteriorating and he underwent a brain surgery. 

Post surgery he also developed lung infection and was critical.

On the 31st of August, doctors treating Mr. Mukherjee warned, there was a decline in his condition and he was in septic shock due to infection in his lung.

Pranab Mukherjee’s death was confirmed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee.

Pranab Mukherjee was an Indian National Congress (INC) leader, he was also elected seven times as parliamentarian.

He also worked as a teacher and journalist before entering politics in 1969.

In 1969 he became a Rajya Sabha member, later the House re-elected him four more times.

Pranab Mukherjee also served as the Finance Minister of India from 1982 to 1984.

Later he served as the External Affairs Minister of India from 1995 to 1996 under the leadership of P.V. Narasimha Rao.

Mr. Mukherjee won his first Lok Sabha election from Bengal’s Jangipur in 2004.

He was re-elected as Lok Sabha member from Jangipur in 2009. 

Mr. Pranab Mukherjee retired from active politics after he was appointed as the 13th President of India in 2014.
