According to reports, the Supreme Court of India has told the politicians not to use religion, creed, caste and language for the purpose of votes. The supreme court said that election in the Country is a nonreligious exercise and therefore a proper way should be followed. The Court has denied the freedom of politicians for seeking votes in the name of caste, religion or creed.

The Top Court said that following a religion is an individual’s own choice and has forbidden politicians from interfering in such activities. The judgment was passed by the Supreme Court in the matter of a Hindutva case after listening to the arguments from various parties.

The Court also said that the relationship between man and God is an individual choice and the state is forbidden to interfere in such activities. A seven-judge Constitutional bench of the Supreme Court passed the judgment in the Hindutva case after hearing in detail, arguments from various parties. The judgment of the apex court confirmed that the elections will remain invalid if a politician is found appealing for a vote on the basis of his religion, caste, and creed.

Chief Justice T.S. Thakur passed the order by revisiting Hindutva judgment and said that misuse of the religion for electoral gain will be considered as a “corrupt practice.”

The majority view of the Supreme Court upheld that elections will be void if a politician makes an appeal for a vote on the basis of religion.
