In Maharashtra, political drama unfolded after Mr. Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, inducted 9 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) into the Cabinet.

Notably, the 9 MLAs are those National Congress Party (NCP) leaders who resigned from the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and joined the Eknath Shinde led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)  While the big switch was a setback to the NCP, it created a ruckus for the ruling party in Maharashtra.

Many Shiv Sena leaders of the Eknath Shinde faction expressed disappointment after the NCP leaders who joined the party recently.  Some of the Eknath Shinde faction leaders were not happy with Ajit Pawar’s supporters and former NCP leaders getting the important portfolios in the State of Maharashtra.  The matter is also creating a confusion in seat sharing matters and power sharing issues in the Maharashtra Government.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar, the national President of the NCP said, the exit of Ajit Pawar and 9 MLAs would not affect the party.  In a tug of war situation, the NCP also got support from the opposition, the Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena faction and the Indian National Congress (INC.)  In this regard, there is a high level meeting between the NCP and the Congress around 3:00 P.M.,  at the INC Headquarters in Delhi.

Ms. Supriya Sule, Mr. Sharad Pawar, NCP leader, Mr. Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the Indian National Congress (INC) would be a part of the meeting.
