Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to take a decision regarding the extension of the ongoing lockdown in India.

The lockdown which was imposed for 21 days on the 24th of March is going to end on the 15th of April.  The lockdown was seen as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infecton in India.

However, in a couple of days, the lockdown is going to end, allowing people to step out of their houses.  As of now, the Central Government and state governments are concerned of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in India.

Despite lockdown, India crossed 8,000 positive cases and reported 8,453 cases with 289 deaths.

Regards to this, State Chief Ministers (CMs) like Mamata Banerjee, Amarinder Gill, B.S. Yediyurappa, Uddhav Thackeray, Naveen Patnaik and K. Chandrashekar Rao announced lockdown extension till the 30th of April.

With these updates, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana are under lockdown.

Besides, the decision over the Natiionwide lockdown is yet to be made.  Though the official announcement regarding the extension did not come, opposition party, the Indian National Congress (INC) took a dig at PM Modi.

Kapil Saibal, a member of the INC, on the 12th of April, asked PM Modi a few question, if the lockdown would be extended.

Mr. Saibal raised issues related to poor families, medical staff protection, migrant workers and curb of pandemic.  He demanded an answer regarding these issues and action plan for the same.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to speak about the extension of the lockdown.
