On the 11th of May, National Technology Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserted the importance of Technology, especially during the ongoing pandemic crises.
Mr. Modi took to his Twitter handle and said, “Today, technology is helping many in the efforts to make the world free from COVID-19. I salute all those at the forefront of research and innovation on ways to defeat Coronavirus. May we keep harnessing technology in order to create a healthier and better planet.”

India celebrates National Technology Day after the successful testing of nuclear missiles in 1998 took place. In the same year, under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, scientist and former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, declared India as a Nuclear state..
Mr. Modi on the Technology Day, recalled the incident, when after completion of nuclear test on the 13th of May, proved India’s capabilities of building strong nuclear weapons. The test was conducted 22 years ago in Pokhran, following which the then Government of India (GoI,) declared the Nation as a Nuclear state.
Mr. Modi in another tweet said, “On National Technology Day, our nation salutes all those who are leveraging technology to bring a positive difference in the lives of others. We remember the exceptional achievement of our scientists on this day in 1998. It was a landmark moment in India’s History.”
Mr. Modi also shared an old video from his Mann Ki Baat programme where he once spoke about the Indian scientists and the nuclear tests.
He shared the video saying, “Here is what I had said about Pokhran, India’s scientists and Atalji’s remarkable leadership during one of the Mann Ki Baat programmes.”

Besides Narendra Modi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister, Sunil Deodhar, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa also took to Twitter and shared about the National Technology Day and Pokhran nuclear test with #Pokhara.
