Prime Minister Narendra got emotional during the video conference through which he was attending the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana celebrations.

While Mr. Modi was interacting with the beneficiaries of the Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna, he became emotional after receiving a message from a beneficiary, Deepa Shah.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana is a welfare scheme launched by the Central Government which provides generic medicines at subsidised prices.  During the conference, a heartfelt thank you message from one of the female beneficiary left Mr. Modi emotional.

Deepa Shah, who was suffering from paralysis 9 years ago thanked PM Modi for the scheme, due to which she could afford the expensive medicines.  In the 2 minute video, Deepa Shah said, “I could not speak. I was getting treatment but the medicines were very expensive. My husband is also disabled.  It was very difficult to run the house. But, since the time I started getting your government’s medicines, I am better now.”

Ms. Deepa said due to the scheme, she is getting medicines for Rs. 1,500 only which costed her Rs. 12,000 previously.

Mr. Modi who is proud to celebrate the Jan Aushadhi event said as of now, the Government launched over 6,000 Jan Aushadhi centres  across the country, where 900 types of medicines and 150 surgical items are available at low prices.

PM Modi in a speech said, “What to do to save every Indian from getting sick?  Even if someone becomes ill, how can one get affordable treatment, to provide a sufficient amount of staff and doctors in hospitals, understand challenges and find its solution.”

Sponsored by the Central Government, the Jan Aushadhi scheme benefited as many as 1 crore families in India since 2014.
