Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Imran Khan to congratulate him over winning the recent elections in Pakistan. Imran Khan’s party the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the largest political party in the National Assembly.
Modi spoke to the new PM elect of Pakistan and hoped democracy will take deeper roots in India’s neighboring country.
The statement released stated Modi also said he envisions peace and development with the new change in power. A media report confirmed that Imran Khan will take his oath as the PM on the 11th of August.
On Monday, the PTI said it was able to secure enough seats in the lower houses by means of coalition talks. This led to the PTI gaining a majority to form a Government in Pakistan. After winning the elections Khan said, “God has given me a chance to come to power to implement that ideology which I started 22 years ago.”
Talking about the issues with India, Khan added, “I really want to fix our ties, you take one step forward, we will take two.” Mr. Khan also stated he would offer an olive branch to India and the two countries must resolve the Kashmir issue.
