The Left Democratic Front (LDF) President Pinarayi Vijayan, took the oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala.

The oath taking ceremony was held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The State Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office to LDF Chief P. Vijayan. This would be the second term of P. Vijayan as the Kerala CM.

After taking the oath of office as CM, P. Vijayan took to Twitter and said, “Took the oaths of office and secrecy, as the Chief Minister of Kerala. Together, let us realise a people’s alternative, and build a Nava Keralam!”

Along with Pinarayi Vijayan, 20 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) also took the oath as the new Cabinet ministers.

The twenty MLAs include A.K. Saseendran, Ahammad Devarkovil, R. Bindu and P.A. Mohammed Riyas, M.V. Govindan, K. Radhakrishnan, K.N. Balagopal, P. Rajeev, V.N. Vasavan, Saji Cherian, V. Sivankutty, Veena George and V. Abdul Rahman.

Due to the outbreak of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19,) the swearing in ceremony was a low key affair. In addition, on the 19th of May, the Kerala High Court also directed the ruling Government to restrict the number of participants in the ceremony.

At the oath taking ceremony, a total of 140 MLAs, 29 Members of Parliament (MPs,) the judiciary, the media and a few senior leaders were invited. However, the leaders of the opposition party and the Indian National Congress (INC) did not attend the event in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.   

Meanwhile, Kerala registered 32,762 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the infection count to 2,203,413, while the death toll mounted to 6,724 with 112 more deaths.
