Considering the constant rise in fuel prices, private cab services like Ola and  Uber decided to increase their fares in major metro cities.

According to sources, the prices would be increased in cities like Kolkata, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.  Mr. Nitish Bhushan, the Control Operations Head of Uber, said, “We listen to feedback from drivers and understand that the current rise in fuel price is causing concern.”

With this, in Kolkata and Delhi-NCR prices have been increased by 12 %. Whereas in Mumbai and Hyderabad, fares are up by 15%, in effect immediately.  However, Mr. Nitish Bhushan further said that they are tracking the fuel prices and would take further steps as per the situational need.

Besides Uber, Ola also announced to increase in their fares amid the petrol and diesel price hike.

Meanwhile, hundreds of cab and car drivers staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar against the significant increase in CNG costs, demanding tariff revisions and threatening to go on an indefinite strike starting, from the 18th of April, if their demands were not satisfied.

In the past week, fuel prices in India increased and crossed Rs.100 mark in major cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi.

The petrol prices rise are burning the pockets of commoners, who are using private cabs, taxis, and two wheelers, for their daily commute in major cities.
