In 2020,there would be no Amarnath pilgrimage for pilgrims across India.

Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, on the 21st of July, conducted a meeting and decided to cancel pilgrimage this year.

The decision was taken in the wake of the outbreaks of the Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19.

This year, it would be difficult for the authorities to conduct the Amarnath yatra even for a small duration in Jammu and Kashmir.

Considering the guidelines of the Novel Coronavirus, it would be difficult to manage large number of pilgrims.respectively

Government of Jammu and Kashmir said, “Based upon the circumstances, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board decided that it is not advisable to hold and conduct this year’s Shri Amarnathji Yatra and expressed its regret to announce the cancellation of Yatra 2020.”

The shrine is located at the height of 13,500 feet above sea level.  An ice stalagmite, symbolic of Lord Shiva, is the main attraction of the pilgrims starting from June till August.

Glimpses of the stalagmite, better known as “ Shivlingam” to the pilgrims were visible when Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu and Home minister Rajnath Singh visited the shrine on the 4th and the 18th of July respectively.

The “Aarti” is also telecast live from the shrine on daily basis.

However, an official release regarding the cancellation of Amarnath yatra 2020 is yet to be made.

This is a developing story.

Stay tuned for further updates.
