The politics of Bihar was disturbed after Mr. Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and his Janata Dal United (JDU) announced an exit from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance.

As per sources, Mr. Nitish Kumar, on the 9th of August, Tuesday, said that the JDU officially walked out of NDA.   The decision was taken in a meeting of the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) the Members of the Legislative Councils (MLCs) and the Members of the Parliament (MPs) which took place at Mr. Nitish Kumar’s residence.

Getting into the details, Mr. Nitish Kumar reportedly told the JDU lawmakers that the BJP humiliated them by trying to break the party at the behest of former Union Minister Mr. R.C.P. Singh.   In addition, many MLAs and MLCs also complained that BJP is trying to weaken their party since 2020.  Moreover, In the past few months, the BJP and the JDU have been at loggerheads on a plethora of issues including the liquor ban, the Agnipath scheme and the law and order situation.

With this development, the JDU might join hands with the opposition including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Indian National Congress (INC) besides the Left parties.

Furthermore, Mr. Nitish Kumar would also meet Mr. Phagu Chauhan, the Governor of Bihar, at 4:00 P.M., and submit his resignation as the Chief Minister of Bihar.  If sources are to be believed, Mr. Nitish Kumar is eyeing the possibility of being the opposition candidate for the Prime Minister’s post in the 2024 General elections.
