Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, is said to have been disappointed with the name of the opposition alliance, INDIA (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance.)

Notably, on the 18th of July, Tuesday, 26 opposition parties gathered and conducted a crucial meeting, discussing the strategies for the 2024 elections. During the meeting, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, the President of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) proposed the opposition alliance to be named INDIA, which was later supposed by other parties also.

However, this name is said to have left Mr. Nitish Kumar upset.  His hesitation to name the opposition alliance INDIA was due to the term NDA, in INDIA.  Notably, NDA stands as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of PM Narendra Modi.  Mr Nitish Kumar also expressed reservations about an acronym with the letters ‘NDA’ in it. Left leaders were also reportedly hesitant and suggested different alternatives.  However, most of the opposition parties seemed to approve of the name, following which Nitish Kumar said, “All right, if all of you are okay with it (the name INDIA), then it is fine.”

Now, an 11 member coordination committee will be set up in the next meeting, which, significantly, will be held in Mumbai.

With this, the alliance of over 26 parties now called INDIA is set for the 2024 elections, against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic Alliance.
