On the 16th of March, Wednesday, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) submitted his resignation to the Indian National Congress (INC.)

The resignation came after Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the Interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC) asked the presidents of five poll-bound states, to put in their papers after the INC lost the Assembly elections.

Taking to Twitter, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu said, “As desired by the Congress President I have sent my resignation.”  He attached his resignation letter which read, “To the President All India Congress Committee. Respected Madam, I hereby resign as President PPCC.”

It is to be noted, the Indian National Congress lost against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the recently held Punjab Assembly elections 2022.  After the humiliating defeat, Sonia Gandhi led INC to conduct a G-23 meeting and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.  During the meeting, the CWC members and Sonia Gandhi decided to construct party strategies and progress for the Party, as it lost all in all the five states; Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, and Manipur.

Besides Navjot Singh Sidhu, INC presidents of Manipur, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa are also set to submit their resignations, as per Ms. Sonia Gandhi’s orders.
