Jyotiraditya Scindia, a former Union Minister and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) resigned from the Party, on the 10th of March.

Along with Jyotiraditya, 20 more Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) resigned from the Party.

This sudden resignation of the MLAs is a major drawback for the 15 month old Kamal Nath led the INC Government.  The major fear for the INC and Kamal Nath is if, the MLAs who resigned join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The BJP leaders initiated and took 15 MLAs to a hotel in Haryana.   The INC also alleged BJP of horse trading the MLAs for their benefit to the unstable Kamal Nath Government.

However, the BJP denied the allegations and said, the Party has nothing to do with this.    Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a member of the BJP, said, “We have nothing to do with this. This is Congress” internal matter and I would not like to comment on it. We had said on the first day that we are not interested in bringing down the government.”

Mr. Scindia’s resignation came on the afternoon of the 10th of March, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

The resignation was submitted to Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)

If the MLAs does not come back to the Party, the Government is expected to collapse, something similar to Karnataka Government, where BJP is the ruling Government.

As of now, the Madhya Pradesh (M.P.,) Government led by kamal Nath has 120 MLAs, 4 more than the majority, whereas, the BJP has a total of 109 seats in M.P.

If the MLAs’ resignation is accepted by the INC and they wish to join the BJP, the Party would be the largest Party with a majority of MLAs in M.P.
