Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, is set to prove the majority in Madhya Pradesh (M.P.,) Assembly today, the 24th of March.
Recently, Kamal Nath, the former Chief Minister of M.P., resigned, losing the majority number of the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the State.
After Kamal Nath’s resignation, the Bharatiya Janata Party being the party with the most Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) staked the claim to form the Government. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a senior leader and Chief Minister of M.P., before Kamal Nath, once again became the Chief Minister.
Mr. Chouhan took the oath of the office at 9:00 P.M., on the 23rd of March in the presence of Lalji Tandon, the Governor of M.P.
Right after taking the oath, Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted a meeting with the Party MLAs and announced a four day special session of the state Assembly.
The Assembly is scheduled to begin from 11:00 A.M., on the 24th of March, with a total of 107 MLAs of the BJP, when Shivraj Singh Chouhan would prove his government’s majority.
Besides a trust vote to prove the majority, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan led BJP would also present a vote on account for the fiscal year 2020-21 during this special session. The special session which started on the 24th of March would conclude on the 27th of March.
As of now, the M.P., Assembly has 206 MLAs, 92 of the Indian National Congress (INC,) 107 of the BJP and 7 independent MLAs, after the resignation of the 22 INC MLAs.
Madhya Pradesh has a total of 230 Assembly seats. However, due to the resignations of 22 INC MLAs, Jyotiraditya Scindia and one BJP MLA, the number fell to 206 with 24 vacant seats.
