MLA’s Brother Arrested along with 5 Others: Six alleged Maoist sympathizers were arrested on Monday by the Siddipet police, among them was the brother of a Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLA. The police seized 250 grams of Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PENT), an extremely powerful plastique explosive with several detonators. The police also found four firearms and around 20 live rounds.

The arrested have been recognized as Repaka Swamy, an employee of a private firm, Basoju Narsimha Chary, a regional news TV channel employee in Suryapet, Mantoori Balanarsu, a scrap trader, Gundlapally Venkatesh, a toddy tapper and Vemul Ramchander and Ranjith Kumar, both are farmers.

Reports have stated that Repaka Swamy is the brother of one of the Maoist’s who was killed. Repaka was reported to have acted as a courier for the banned Communist Party of India – Maoists group.

Repaka Swamy is alleged to have met the leaders of the Maoist group at the Andhra-Odisha border back in 2013 to discuss recruiting in Telangana, The Hindu reported. The report also adds that Repaka was given 80,000 rupees along with memory cards that had revolutionary songs copied on them. Swamy was instructed to take the money to Raghu alias Narsimha Chary who gave him the pistols and bullets.

The police also reported that the firearm was handed over to Vemula Ramchander who is the brother of TRS MLA Vemula Veeresham. Ramchander has also been found associated with the CPI and a number of cases with the Nalgonda police are pending against him.

The case is under investigation and the accused have been booked but the main question is who the Maoist sympathizers were planning to target.
