New Delhi: The National Museum of Natural History was completely destroyed after a massive fire broke out in the FICCI building in the early hours on Tuesday.

Six firemen have been injured in the fire mishap. The woundedwere immediately taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where their condition is said to be stable. The fire broke out around 1:45 am and has brought under control by 8 am. Fire officials say that 40 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire. Police said it began in the top floor of the building on Tansen Road in Lutyens Delhi and spread rapidly thereafter.

“The operation is on. The cause of the fire could not be known yet,” an official said, adding that senior police officials of the district and the fire department chief have rushed to the spot to take note of the situation.
