Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative has received a boost from different technological sectors. The most recent one will be the manufacturing of Apple iPhones in India.
The USA Cupertino based tech giant has made a pact with ‘Make in India’ and will be manufacturing iPhones at their Bengaluru plant. The handset will be assembled from scratch at this unit. The Karnataka government released a press note in this regard, thanking the Apple Inc., welcoming this move said, “Will foster cutting edge technology ecosystem and supply chain development in the State, which is critical for India to compete globally.”

The flagship equipments parts are manufactured at the Wistron company which is based in Taiwan. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of Apple will be involved in producing the new iPhones at the Bengaluru unit in the industrial hub at Peenya area. After the decision to set up a design and development accelerator in Bengaluru to grow the IOD developer community, this is the second big project of Apple to be set in Bengaluru.


This project will make India the third country in the world to assemble iPhones. The first two being the US, which is Apple’s homeland, and China. The prices are expected to be more competitive as the import duty prices attract 12.5 percent additionally on the iPhones. As there will be no import duty charges they are expected to be considerably lower.
