Yogvedant Poddar, a Jet Airways flight’s passenger, was made to deboard the plane and was arrested at the Kolkata Airport, today.

The flight was travelling to Mumbai and was about to take off from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, when a passenger reported the presence of a terrorist in the aircraft.

The incident took place when a passenger saw Yogvedant sending a picture on Snapchat, with the caption ‘Terrorist on board, I destroy women’s hearts’ and reported the same to the cabin crew. The flight attendants immediately informed the pilot about the presence of a security threat. The pilot contacted the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and the airplane returned to the Kolkata Airport.

After the incident was reported, the Jet Airways’ security took Yogvedant into custody and handed him over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officers for interrogation.

A senior security official said, “After taking his seat, he covered his face with a handkerchief and started sending Whatsapp messages from his phone. A co-passenger sitting next to Poddar got suspicious given his behaviour of covering the face and read the message Poddar was keying on his phone one of them read ‘Terrorist on flight, I destroy women’s heart.’”

Mr. Poddar is a resident of Kolkata and was going to Mumbai for a job interview with four to five friends. The CISF officials searched his belongings to determine whether he is a threat to security or linked to any terrorist group or not. The CISF and the police are on high alert as today marks the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Yogvedant Poddar’s parents were called to the airport police station. His father said, Yogvedant is not associated with any terrorist activities and was simply joking with his friends.

The Jet Airways flight took off for Mumbai after a delay of 1 hour 10 minutes.
