Mr. Karti Chidambaram, the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Indian National Congress (INC) denied allegations of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Chinese Visa Scam.

Notably, the INC leader arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Headquarters in Delhi for interrogation in connection with the alleged Chinese Visa Scam, on the 26th of May, Thursday.  

According to the CBI, Mr. Karti Chidambaram has been alleged of receiving Rs. 50 lakh to illegally facilitate visas for 263 Chinese nationals to complete a power project in Punjab. Mr. Karti Chidambaram’s father and senior Congress leader Mr. P. Chidambaram have also been named.  Furthermore, the CBI has booked four other people including Karti Chidambaram’s chartered accountant Mr. S. Bhaskararama.  As of now, Mr. S. Bhaskarama is under CBI custody. Mr. S. Bhaskar Raman, the close associate of Mr. K. Chidambaram was arrested in the case on the 17th of May, by the CBI. 

The CBI has also asked Mr. Karti Chidambaram to join the investigation within 16 hours, after his return from the United Kingdom (U.K.)

Responding to the CBI summon, Mr. Karti Chidambaram said, “I am heading back home today, as was planned when I left 2 weeks ago for a work/ family visit trip to UK and Europe.  It does not intimidate me that the central government is once again using its agencies to accuse me of a malicious and completely fabricated charge.”  He further added, “For what it’s worth, however, I firmly state that I am not associated with this visa issue directly, indirectly, vicariously, or even telepathically!  The allegations against me by the CBI are ludicrous, to say the least.  I categorically deny all of them.”

Meanwhile, besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also filed a money laundering case in the alleged visa scam involving Mr. P. Chidambaram.

The investigation into the matter is underway at the Delhi headquarters of the CBI.
