Mr. Bommai Basavaraj, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, tested positive for the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

On the 6th of August, Mr. Bommai Basavaraj took to Twitter and announced to be positive for the Novel Coronavirus disease.  In his Twitter post, Mr. Bommai Basavaraj said, “I have tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms and have isolated myself at home.  Those who came in touch with me in the last few days, kindly isolate yourself and get yourself tested.  My trip to Delhi stands canceled (sic.)” 

Furthermore, Mr. Bommai Basavaraj also canceled his scheduled trip to Delhi.  Notably, Mr. Bommai Basavaraj was scheduled to visit Delhi and meet the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, Karnataka is again witnessing a hike in Novel Coronavirus cases. In the past 24 hours, the State registered 2,042 new cases and 2 deaths.  As of now, Karnataka has 11,403 active cases with a COVID-19 positivity rate of 6.32%, a weekly positive rate of 6.30%, and a fatality rate of 0.09%. 

Meanwhile, Karnataka has administered 11,66,46,496 Covid vaccine doses and 67,98,015 precautionary shots to the people of the State.
