On the 27th of July, an encounter started between militants and security forces in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir.

Acting upon an intelligence report about a few militants hiding in the Bonbazar area of Shopian, the security forces launched a search operation and cordoned off the area.

Later, the militants who were hiding in the area opened fire at the security officers, following which, the officers retaliated, thereby leading to the encounter.

The number of militants in the area is not ascertained and the encounter is still going on.

As of now, no casualties were reported by the officials.
