In the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter, with security forces on the 15th of June, Wednesday.

According to sources, the encounter broke out between the terrorists and security forces in the Kanjiular region of Shopian after the security forces launched a search operation, based on an intelligence tip.  They cordoned off the area, following which a fight broke out, leading to the encounter of two terrorists. 

The Inspector General (IG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Mr. Vijay Kumar took to Twitter and posted, “One of the killed #terrorists has been identified as Jan Mohd Lone of #Shopian. Besides other #terror crimes, he was involved in the recent killing of Vijay Kumar, Bank manager on 2/6/22 in #Kulgam district.” 

Meanwhile, after the search operation, the security forces also recovered Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including 1 AK 47 rifle and a pistol from the encounter site.

According to sources, in 2022, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted over 60 operations, killing 104 terrorists.  In addition, the Union Territory police also confirmed to have lost 16 police personnel and 17 civilians, in various operations.
