On the 29th of November, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the Party manifesto for the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir. 

The elections would be held in eight phases and started from the 28th of November.

The first phase of the DDC elections were held on the 28th of November.

In the first phase of the by-elections of the vacant seats of Panchayat level bodies was held on the 28th of November and 57 percent polling turnout.

The State Election Commissioner, K.K.Sharma confirmed the voter’s turnout.

According to the SEC, a total of 85,363 electors exercised their franchise in these historic elections for both Sarpanch and Panch, vacant constituencies.

In a bid to reach out to the Urdu speaking population in Kashmir valley, the BJP released its Urdu version of the manifesto on the 29th of November.

Shahnawaz Hussain, the Spokesperson of the BJP said, “The BJP will get the majority of seats not only in Jammu but Kashmir as well. The DDC polls are for development and prosperity. Those who have picked up the arms must shun the path and pick a pen that carries more power.” He said regional parties were scared of the BJP and had to form an alliance “because they feared the imminent loss.”

Mr. Hussain said the BJP will rule the country for the next 50 years and “time has come to take J&K on the path of development”.

According to the released manifesto Jammu and Kashmir has been finally brought on the path of development after the revocation of Article 370.

Former Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) Vibhod Gupta released the manifesto in presence of senior party leaders from the Valley, such as Sofi Yosuf and Darakhshan Abdrabi.

The BJP said it has launched a war against corruption and land grabbing in the union territory.

The BJP also claimed to work for the progress of the UT, by improving amenities like electricity, water supply and road networks in the union territory have been improved as well.

The DDC elections started from the 28th of November and would continue till the 19th of December. 

The results would be announced on the 22nd of December.
