Cases of the Wuhan virus and its new variant, Omicron, are rising rapidly in India. In just 15 days, the tally of Omicron cases reached 961. Notably, compared to yesterday (the 29th of December,) the nation reported 23% more cases today.

Speaking about the highest number of Omicron cases, Delhi is on top with 263 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 252 cases. Other states which reported Omicron cases are: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, India reported 13,154 new Wuhan virus, also known as COVID-19 cases, which is 43% higher than yesterday, the 29th of December. In addition, a total of 268 deaths and over 7,000 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. The Union Health Ministry confirmed the new COVID-19 cases and Omicron cases on the morning of the 30th of December, Thursday.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said, there are 82,402 active caseloads in India, with 3,42,58,778 recoveries, till date. In addition, the recovery rate in the country currently stands at 98.38%. Also, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed to conduct as many as 67.64 crore COVID-19 tests in India, till the 30th of December.

Notably, as per medical experts, the COVID-19 4th wave and Omicron peak is expected at the end of January 2022. In regard to the Omicron and COVID-19 threat, the Union Government and respective state governments urged people to be cautious and take precautions, avoiding public gathering and following COVID-19 protocols.

In addition, many states and UTs imposed night curfew and strict COVID-19 guidelines.
