The Union Health Ministry has confirmed the availability of over 15.90 crores of Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine doses. On the 7th of April, Thursday, the Central Government said, for COVID-19, there are over 15.90 crore doses with states and union territories in India.
It is to be noted, that initially in 2022, the Central Government provided over 186.36 crore vaccines, of which 15 crores are still with States and UTs, for the eligible people of India.
It is to be noted, that the nationwide vaccine drive started in January 2021, vaccinating the majority of the population against the deadly Coronavirus.
The COVID-19 vaccination drive started in a phased manner, vaccinating senior citizens in the first phase, people above 45 years old in the second phase, and people between 18 to 44 years old in the third phase. Finally, in 2022, the Central Government rolled out a nationwide vaccine for children above 15 years old.
As of now, more than 15.90 crore COVID-19 vaccines, from the Bharat Biotech International Private Limited’s COVAXIN and the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covisheild are available in India. More COVID-19 vaccines are in the pipeline, which would be sent to Indian states and union territories (UTs,) to vaccinate the citizens of India.
