On Sunday, the Pakistan High Commissioner tweeted thanking India for reuniting a mother and her 5 year old son after a year. The child was brought to India by his father and was kept in the Country against the mother’s consent. Abdul Basit, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to India tweeted, “We are thankful to (the) Indian authorities for their cooperation in this humanitarian matter.”

Iftikhar Ahmed, the boy was handed over to the Pakistani Rangers by the Indian authorities to reunite with his mother at the Wagah border. The mother was waiting for her son from a year and was at the Wagah gate several hours ahead of the schedule.

Rohina Kiyani, Iftikhar’s mother, speaking to the press at Wagah said, “I am extremely happy to have my son back. I am thankful to the Pakistani Government for its help for the return of my child.” She also added, “I had lost all hope of getting my child back. It’s not a less than a miracle for me.”

Rohina accused the estranged father of kidnapping the child with the pretext of taking him to a wedding in Dubai and from there to Kashmir, his native place in March 2016.

Rohina filed for custody in the New Delhi Supreme Court with the help of Pakistan High Commission (PHC.) The PHC after taking up the case proved that Iftikhar was a Pakistan national and the SC ruled in her favor. The court ordered the father that the child should be returned to his mother in Pakistan by right.
