The Congress party won a comfortable victory against the Bharatiya Janata Party, winning 117 seats against 53 for the ruling party.

Counting of votes in Karnataka began at 8 AM across 224 Assembly seats of Karnataka. Notably, the results are in line with the exit poll predictions which put Congress in the lead, with some predicting a clear win for the party.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has conceded defeat with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai saying that the party has not hit the mark. “We’ve not been able to make the mark. Once the results come we will do a detailed analysis. As a national party, we will not only analyse but also see what deficiencies and gaps were left at various levels. We take this result in our stride,” he said.

The Indian National Congress won a majority of 118 seats and crossed the majority mark of 113 seats in the State.

The Congress party won a clear majority and is all set to form a new government in the southern state, ousting the BJP from power.
